Diaphonised Salamanders
Diaphonised Salamanders
These gorgeous dual stained and cleared salamanders took around 9 months to prepare. Slightly smaller and narrower than the axolotl I’ve worked on previously, they cleared up a little easier around the base of the tail, likely due to the fact that there were less fatty deposits.
I’m curious as to whether this is due to the species, or whether this could be related to diet and lifestyle.
These little guys were post-dissection educational specimens sent to me from the US from a follower and supporter of my work. Presumably they would have been raised in captivity, as they were sourced from a science supplies company.
In any case, these little creatures were still in the aquatic stage of their life cycles, evidenced by their long flowing gills. Sadly these were incredibly tricky to photograph as they were crystal cleared, but they can be seen with the naked eye with close inspection.
The jars are approximately 21cm tall (excluding the lid), and the salamander are around 17-19 cm.
