Metamorphosis by Gerard Geer is a collection of bone sculptures that explores relationships between the creatures and plants that inhabit a fantastical environmental space, as well as the symbiotic connections they share with one another. It explores ideas of transformation through connection to nature and suggests a mutually beneficial coexistence formed through shared cyclical bonds.
Taking place in the same fictional realm as Bloom, a series created by Geer in 2018, this new collection expands on the dynamic interaction between the creatures and the flowers they pollinate. Using an amalgamation of articulated and crystallised animal bones, Geer illustrates a complex life cycle whereby through the union of animal and plant life, both are transfigured. The delicate floral blooms become cocoons in which the creatures of the world may metamorphose, and upon emergence, those flowers detach to begin a life of their own.
